A fun whānau ātea (family recreation space) at the foot of Te Pane o Mataoho / Te Ara Pueru / Māngere Mountain is a destination for families in Tāmaki Makaurau to enjoy.

Te Pane o Mataoho | Te Ara Pueru | Māngere Mountain is the largest and best preserved of the volcanic features in the southern part of Auckland. 

With its lava dome, crater and archaeological features, Maangere Mountain offers you an unforgettable encounter with the past.

The name Māngere references Ngā Hau Māngere, or ‘the idle breezes’. The name Te Pane o Mataoho translates as ‘the head of Mataoho’, the Māori deity who is the guardian of secrets hidden in the earth. The name Te Ara Pueru refers to a historic event that occurred on the Maunga prior to European arrival.

Mangere Domain Playground is located at 17R Domain Road in Māngere Bridge in South Auckland.

Take a walk up the summit of Te Pane o Mataoho | Te Ara Pueru | Māngere Mountain with your family and enjoy the stunning views of the coastline. The summit road gate access hours aligns to daylight savings hours in summer it it is open form 7am to 8:30pm and in winter from 7am to 7pm.
